Glee: anybody watch it?

Yeah, I know I'm breaking the layout with the pic above, but I don't care.

Anybody watch Glee tonight? I did! And here's what I thought of it!

Soooooooo....... not bad, but it still hasn't reeled me in just yet. I liked the vision of high school -- how bright and sunny and fun it was. But there were just too many HS cliches that couldn't be ignored. Oh, jocks hate everyone? There's a hierarchy in school? Tell me something I don't know. Also, the diva girl and jock boy seemed a lot like Reese Witherspoon and Chris Klein in Election. Which, if you're going to rip off movies, isn't a bad one to aspire to... but I did feel like I was watching rehashes of other high school shows rather than seeing something new.

And hey, it's very little like HSM! Thank God!

I think I'll keep watching and see where this all goes. The Rehab performance was stellar -- if they can keep doing things like that, I'll keep watching even if the show crumbles into craptown.

I liked it, actually. But it was quite heavy handed with the high school heirarchy thing. Paint ball guns? Seriously? It was like Chad Danforth suddenly had a dysfunctional childhood and needed to inflict pain on others to maintain control in his otherwise chaotic life. I can't tell if it was supposed to be satire or if it was just badly done. And I think the singer/jock came to the "we're all losers!" conclusion just a season too early.

But I think the bones are there. The supporting players are all interesting, the singing and dancing made me happy, and I liked how all the transitional music was acapella singing.

I actually saw a bit of HSM in it... did you notice that the program cover for Carmel High looked quite a bit like the HSM logo? And I think the female lead is a Sharpay/Gabi hybrid. Plus you have have the singer/sports kid, who I half expected to burst out with, "Did you ever think I could be both??"

Have you seen Popular? It's from the same creator and the image of HS is very similar in both. I think Popular is much more exaggerated though.

I remember when it was out orginally, and I remember seeing it on Netflix and thinking I should watch it. Do you think I should give it a try?

You should. It's like a teen show on crack and do tongue-in-cheek.

I remember watching it like once. All I remember is Leslie Bibb!

I saw the screener a few days ago and loved it. Showchoir is my new obsession so this fits in nicely. I'm excited for fall and to see where the series goes.

Have you seen Spectacular!? It's Nickelodeon's version of HSM but abut showchoir.

What are you doing that you get screeners of stuff?

Have not seen the Nick show, but may have to check it out. Do you think it's worth DVRing?

Hidden Palms was amazing. I really wish they would have at least finished the first season.

Are you kidding me? Hidden Palms was horrific! Starring the awful Oliver from the OC! KILL!

I used to be in show choirs, myself, and interestingly enough they've nailed the two high school groups on the show to two notorious So Cal show choirs that happen to also be rivals! :) me like

Show choir is a new phenomenon for me... it seems kind of like the thing I would have loved in high school, so I'm nursing some jealousy while I watch.

The Rehab performance was spectacular though. I watched it twice!

i thought it was painfully derivative too (and a lot like hsm actually, only with ugly people. yeah, i said it.)
